BOARD OF THE PARISH OF GRANT, STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN

AT A REGULAR MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY, APRIL 5, 2016.

 

            The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, met in its regular meeting place, the Grant Parish School Board Office, Colfax, Louisiana, in Regular Session, Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at 6:00 o’clock P.M.

 

            There were present Mr. Randy Browning, Mrs. Lisa Roberts, Mrs. Charlene Anderson, Mrs. Mary Bullock, Mr. Bill Riggs Mr. A.D. Futrell and Mr. Buddy Pennison.

 

             Mrs. Karen Layton was absent.

 

             Mrs. Sheila S. Jackson, Secretary-Treasurer was also present.

 

            The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, was duly convened by Mrs. Mary Bullock, President of the Grant Parish School Board, who then stated that the Grant Parish School Board was ready to transact any business which may come before the Board.

 

I.  Recognition:

          A.  Recognize the Board Members for their training hours:

            Mr. Mike Slaughter, of Slaughter Insurance, and Mrs. Nancy Pratt, of Risk Management presented a proposal for Workers Compensation Insurance to be voted on at the May, 2016 Board Meeting.

 

            Mr. Craig Tappel, of Brown & Brown Insurance presented a proposal for Worker’s Comp Insurance to be voted on at the May, 2016 Board Meeting.

 

            Motion by Mr. Pennison, seconded by Mr. Futrell and unanimously approved $28,000.00 for Pollock Elementary - for a fence.

 

            Motion by Mr. Pennison, seconded by Mr. Riggs and unanimously approved a district revision for Pollock Elementary in the amount of $47,000.00 for a new roof on the white building.

 

            Motion by Mr. Pennison, seconded by Mr. Riggs and unanimously approved a parish wide revision at Montgomery High in the amount of $5,000.00 for air conditioner repairs.

 

            Motion by Mr. Pennison, seconded by Mr. Browning and unanimously approved granting the Superintendent permission to have house/property behind the School Board Office appraised.

 

            An item on the Transportation and Maintenance Committee concerning assistance for the Police Jury with bus turn arounds was tabled until the next meeting to get more information.

 

            The Board received for approval at the May, 2016 meeting the Worker’s Comp Insurance Proposals.

 

            Motion by Mr. Browning, seconded by Mrs. Anderson and unanimously approved the Carl Perkins’ Secondary Application Amendment#1 which has already approved by the State Department of Louisiana.

 

            Motion by Mrs. Roberts, seconded by Mr. Pennison and unanimously approved the Emergency Evacuation Accommodations Agreement between the Colfax Reunion Nursing & Rehab of Colfax and the Grant Parish School Board.

 

            The Superintendent informed the Board of the Louisiana National Guard’s help with the athletic fields at Grant Jr. High.  Work should begin May 1, 2016.

 

            The Academic minutes will be made up at two of the schools.  There will be adjustments made to keep students from going longer in the year.

 

            Achievement Day will be April 14, 2016.

 

            The 9th grade Sheriff’s Day Camp will be April 21, 2016.

 

            Many individuals, churches, and the Colfax Lions Club has helped with flood victim donations

 

            There are two LSBA conferences scheduled.  The Summit on April 26, 2016 and The LSBA Convention on July 31, 2016 through August 2, 2016.

  

            The 2016-2017 budget is in the planning stage.

 

            Motion made by Mr. Pennison, seconded by Mr. Riggs and unanimously approved to adjourn the meeting.
