 BOARD OF THE PARISH OF GRANT, STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN

AT A REGULAR MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2015.

 

            The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, met in its regular meeting place, the Grant Parish School Board Office, Colfax, Louisiana, in Regular Session, Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 6:00 o’clock P.M.

 

            There were present Mr. Randy Browning, Mrs. Charlene Anderson, Mr. Buddy Pennison, Mr. Bill Riggs, Mrs. Mary Bullock and Mr. A. D. Futrell. 

 

            Mrs. Lisa Roberts and Mrs. Karen Layton were absent.

 

            Mrs. Sheila S. Jackson, Secretary-Treasurer was also present.

 

            The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, was duly convened by Mr. A. D. Futrell, President of the Grant Parish School Board, who then stated that the Grant Parish School Board was ready to transact any business which may come before the Board.

 

            Motion by Mrs. Anderson, seconded by Mr. Browning and unanimously approved the September 1, 2015 Regular Meeting Minutes.

 

            Ms. Quincy Cheek was at the meeting to discuss 4-H projects that have already been done and what is coming in the future.  We had 8 Grant Parish Students that attended 4-H University in Baton Rouge, LA.  There were 3 state level winners.

 

1.  Crystal Cherrier – Grant High, Louisiana 4-H State Board of Performing Arts.

2.  Preston Parker – Grant High, won a blue ribbon in Fishing Sports.

3.  Jessie Morgan -  Grant High won a blue ribbon in Fishing Sports.

4.  Lathan Lasyone – Montgomery High, won 5th in Compact Tractor.

5.  Dillon Whitstine – Grant High, won 1st in Advanced Shotgun Sporting and 2nd

       Overall Champion in the State of Louisiana.

6.  Preston Parker – Grant High, won 1st place in LA State Rifle Championship.

7.  Carson Stewart – Grant Jr. High, won LA Jr. Advanced Shotgun Champion.

8.  Alliyah Dubois – Montgomery High, won Southern Regional 4-H Horse Barrel

     Racing held in Georgia. 

 

The Superintendent is very proud of all of the participants.

 

            Mr. Steven McCain was at the meeting and thanked the school board for what they had done in the past and spoke of some of the changes in the near future.  Mr. McCain liked the fact that the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Grant Parish School Board have come together in the past and made many changes to help the community continue growing.  He hopes to have the continued support between the two agencies. The Superintendent thanked Sheriff Mccain and his Resource Officers and Deputies for their quick responses to any problem which may occur at the schools.

 

            The Grant High handicap parking spaces have been finished.

 

            The Grant High stadium bleacher update is that materials were ordered on September 30, 2015.  It will take 2 to 3 weeks to get them in and work will resume.

 

            The Montgomery High bleacher update is that the Board will pay $35,000.00 on the bleachers with a possibility of an additional $20,000.00 to expand seating capacity in the future.

 

            Information on air-conditioning at the Grant High and Montgomery gyms was discussed.  Additional information was requested.  Further discussion will take place at the November 2015 meeting.

 

            Motion by Mr. Pennison, seconded by Mr. Browning and unanimously approved a budget revision in the amount of $10,000.00 for Pollock Elementary for Technology (Computers, Projectors, etc.)

 

            Motion by Mr. Browning, seconded by Mr. Riggs and unanimously approved Lott Oil as the lowest bidder for the fuel bid.

 

            All of the Elementary schools gave reports on their schools:  Stacy Felton – Colfax Elementary; Becky Durand for Pollock Elementary; Shana Delrie for South Grant Elementary; and Paxton Teddlie for Verda Elementary.  Each school had a flyer for their school listing all of the instructional activities that is going on in their schools.

 

            Motion by Mrs. Anderson, seconded by Mr. Riggs and unanimously approved to ratify the 2% one – time pay supplement to all employees.

 

            Motion by Mr. Pennison, seconded by Mrs. Anderson and unanimously approved an Addendum to the Grant Parish Pupil Progression Plan for the 2015-2016 school year.

 

            Motion by Mr. Browning, seconded by Mrs. Bullock and unanimously approved adding the following policy to the Policy Manual:  GAMB (Dress Appearance of School Personnel).

 

            Motion by Mr. Browning, seconded by Mrs. Bullock and unanimously approved the following policies as a result of new statutory language:  EDD (School Bus Scheduling and Routing), JCDB (Student Dress Code), JDD (Suspension), and JDE (Expulsion).

 

            Motion by Mr. Pennison, seconded by Mr. Riggs and unanimously approved going into Executive Session to discuss a student’s admission into the Grant Parish School system.

 

            The parents requested a closed session.

 

            Motion by Mrs. Anderson, seconded by Mr. Browning and unanimously approved to go out of Executive Session.

 

            Motion by Mr. Pennison, seconded by Mrs. Bullock and unanimously approved going back into Regular Session.

 

            The student was placed in Alternative School for 1 to 2 weeks until records are received from the previous school.

 

            The Superintendent gave the Board copies of a magazine, Cenla Focus, where several students’ from Grant Parish were recognized.

 

            The release of the Spring 2015 scores will be released around November 9, 2015.

 

            The Board was given the October 1, 2015 student count.

 

            All of the regular reports were all in the back of the folders. 

 

            Motion by Mr. Pennison, seconded by Mrs. Bullock and unanimously approved to adjourn the meeting.
