 BOARD OF THE PARISH OF GRANT, STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN

AT A REGULAR MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY MAY 5, 2015.

 

            The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, met in its regular meeting place, the Grant Parish School Board Office, Colfax, Louisiana, in Regular Session, Tuesday May 5, 2015 at 6:00 o’clock P.M.

 

            There were present Mr. Randy Browning, Mrs. Lisa Roberts, Mrs. Karen Layton, Mrs. Charlene Anderson, Mr. Buddy Pennison, Mr. Bill Riggs, Mrs. Mary Bullock and Mr. A. D. Futrell.

 

            Everyone was present.

 

            Mrs. Sheila S. Jackson, Secretary-Treasurer was also present.

 

            The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, was duly convened by Mr. A. D. Futrell, Grant Parish School Board Member, who then stated that the Grant Parish School Board was ready to transact any business which may come before the Board.

 

            Motion by Mr. Riggs, seconded by Mrs. Karen Layton and unanimously approved the April 16, 2015 Regular Meeting Minutes.

 

            Mallory Crawford was recognized for having Perfect Attendance for 13 years.

 

            Ethan Lewis and Evhan Lewis were both recognized for having Perfect Attendance for 12 years.

 

            Recognition of Valedictorian and Salutatorian for each High School:

            Mallory Crawford was recognized for getting Platinum Level of Work-keys Assessment.

 

            The School Board recognized the Regional Science Fair Participants:

            The Board recognized Ms. Katie Woodard, of Grant High School as the District Winner of the Louisiana School Boards’ Association Art Contest.

 

            Mr. Craig Tappel of Brown and Brown Insurance gave his proposals and stated the rates were the same as last year.

 

            Motion by Mr. Pennison, seconded by Mr. Browning and unanimously approved the following budget revisions:

            The Transportation and Maintenance Committee had nothing to report.

 

            Motion by Mrs. Anderson, seconded by Mrs. Roberts and to request State Superintendent John White to allow Dr. Gary Jones to assist the Grant Parish School Board with creating a new Superintendent evaluation document.  Motion failed. 

 

Yeas – 3:   Mr. Riggs, Mrs. Anderson, and Mrs. Roberts.    Nays – 5:  Mr. Browning, Mrs. Layton, Mr. Pennison, Mrs. Bullock and Mr. Futrell.

 

            Mr. Futrell would like to see the Education Committee and the Policy and Procedure Committee develop a new evaluation plan. 

           

            Motion by Mr. Pennison, seconded by Mrs. Layton to approve Brown & Brown for the Worker’s Comp Insurance.  Motion failed.

 

            Motion by Mr. Browning, seconded by Mr. Riggs to go with Slaughter Insurance for the Grant Parish School Boards’ Worker’s Compensation Insurance.

 

            The Board received proposal’s for increasing menu prices to be approved at the June 2015 Board Meeting.

            Motion by Mrs. Roberts seconded by Mrs. Bullock and unanimously approved granting the Superintendent permission to sign the Engagement Letter to maintain Rozier, Herrington and McKay as the Grant Parish School Board’s Certified Public Accountants.  The total amount will be $28,950.00.

 

            Motion by Mrs. Layton, seconded by Mrs. Anderson and unanimously approved granting the Superintendent permission to disburse sales tax and millage supplemental checks on May 14, 2015 and May 15, 2015.

 

            The Board received for approval at the June 2015 board meeting the Employee Dress Code Policy.

 

            Motion by Mr. Browning, seconded by Mrs. Roberts and approved Amanda Morrison’s administrative contract as the principal at Grant High School.  Mrs. Anderson voted nay.

 

            Motion by Mr. Browning, seconded by Mr. Pennison and unanimously approve the Inventory Tax Resolution.

            Motion by Mrs. Roberts, seconded by Mr. Pennison and unanimously approved the appointment of The Chronicle as the official journal for July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016.

 

            The Board received for approval at the June 2015 board meeting Student and Faculty Handbooks for Pollock Elementary.

 

            The Board received for approval at the June 2015 board meeting Student and Faculty Handbooks for South Grant Elementary.

 

            Motion by Mrs. Roberts, seconded by Mrs. Anderson and approved the Board entering into Executive Session pursuant to La. R. S. 42:17 (A)(1) for a personnel concern.

 

            Motion by Mr. Riggs, seconded by Mrs. Layton and unanimously approved going back to regular session.

 

            The Superintendent told the Board of Financial Disclosures that needed to be filled out and returned to the Ethics Commission.

 

            There was discussion of the Budget work session which will be May 18, 2015 at 6:00 P.M.

 

            The Superintendent stated she appreciates the work the teachers do.

 

            Motion by Mrs. Layton, seconded by Mr. Pennison and unanimously approved to adjourn the meeting.
