 BOARD OF THE PARISH OF GRANT, STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN

AT A REGULAR MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY MARCH 3, 2015.

 

            The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, met in its regular meeting place, the Grant Parish School Board Office, Colfax, Louisiana, in Regular Session, Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 6:00 o’clock P.M.

 

            There were present Mrs. Lisa Roberts, Mrs. Karen Layton, Mrs. Charlene Anderson, Mr. Buddy Pennison, Mr. Bill Riggs, Mrs. Mary Bullock and Mr. A. D. Futrell.

 

            Mr. Randy Browning was absent.

 

            Mrs. Sheila S. Jackson, Secretary-Treasurer was also present.

 

            The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, was duly convened by Mr. A. D. Futrell, Grant Parish School Board Member, who then stated that the Grant Parish School Board was ready to transact any business which may come before the Board.

 

            Motion by Mrs. Bullock, seconded by Mrs. Layton and unanimously approved the February 3, 2015 Regular Meeting Minutes, the February 9, 2015 and the February 19, 2015 Special Meeting Minutes.

 

            The following Students of the Year were recognized for their excellence: 

 

1.  Caleb Florice – South Grant Elementary

2.  Emily Savell, Grant Jr. High – Grant Parish 8th Grade Student of the Year.

3.  Mallory Crawford, Grant High School – Grant Parish 12th Grade Student of the Year

 

            The following students were recognized for participating in and winning the 2015 Game Day Art Contest.  The selected artwork will be an inspiration for the Game Day 2015 t-shirt:

 

Javonna Norris, Matthew Sarma, Jasmyne Roberson and Macy Temple.  The next Game Day will be held at Grant High School on May 1, 2015.

 

            Mr. Wayne Richey did not make the board meeting but stated he would like to be put on the April 16, 2015 agenda.

 

            Motion by Mr. Pennison, for the Finance Committee, seconded by Mrs. Anderson and unanimously approved the following budget revisions:

 

a. District:

 

               1. Grant Jr. High            $3,000.00  Additional ad valorem revenue collected

                                                   $3,000.00  Maintenance Supplies – summer work being done now

 

                2.  Verda                      $14,750.00  Misc. revenue – Larma safety grant

                                                   $14,750.00  Building Improvements – security cameras

 

                3.  Grant High               $7,500.00  Additional ad valorem revenue collected

                                                   $5,000.00  Maintenance supplies – paint, wax, etc.

                                                   $2,500.00  Repair

 

  b.  Parishwide:

 

                  1.  Pollock                  $2,200.00  Additional ad valorem revenue collected

                                                   $2,200.00  Healthcare for receptionist

 

            The Board discussed funding for Pre-K at Georgetown and Colfax.  The Board decided to take no action at this time and to do more research before the next board meeting.

 

            Motion by Mrs. Layton, for the Transportation and Maintenance Committee, seconded by Mr. Riggs and unanimously approved the Georgetown buses purchasing fuel at Buttermers.  Mrs. Layton said that these three buses will have to brought monthly to the bus barn for checks.

 

            The Superintendent said there was no one at the meeting to go over leaking at Grant Jr. High.  Mr. Smith said they are going to check the leaks again after the next heavy rain.

 

            Motion by Mrs. Anderson, seconded by Mrs. Layton and unanimously approved a resolution for Common Core/PARCC.

 

 

              Motion by Mrs. Bullock, seconded by Mrs. Roberts and unanimously approved an agreement between  AHEC and the Grant Parish School board for the summer of 2015.

            Motion by Mrs. Layton, seconded by Mrs. Anderson and unanimously approved changing the April Board Meeting from April 7, 2015 to April 16, 2015.

 

            Motion by Mrs. Roberts, seconded by Mrs. Roberts and unanimously decided to enter into an Emergency Evacuation Agreement between the Grant Parish School Board and Colfax Reunion Nursing and Rehab of Colfax.

            Motion by Mr. Riggs, seconded by Mrs. Roberts and unanimously approved entering into an Emergency Evacuation Agreement between the Grant Parish School Board and Central Control.

            Motion by Mr. Pennison, seconded by Mrs. Anderson and unanimously approved the 2015-2016 Academic Calendar.

            Motion by Mrs. Roberts, seconded by Mrs. Layton and unanimously approved the NCLB Consolidated application amendment #3.

2015 NCLB Amendment 3

            The Board received for approval at the April 16, 2015 board meeting, the 2015-2016 Grant Jr. High Student Handbooks and the 2015-2016 Faculty Handbook.

 

            The Superintendent asked the Board to turn in all receipts from the Louisiana School Board’s Association.

            Motion by Mrs. Roberts, seconded by Mrs. Layton and unanimously approved adjourning the meeting.
