THE OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS OF THE GRANT PARISH SCHOOL

 BOARD OF THE PARISH OF GRANT, STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN

AT A REGULAR MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY DECEMBER 9, 2014.

 

            The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, met in its regular meeting place, the Grant Parish School Board Office, Colfax, Louisiana, in Regular Session, Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 6:00 o’clock P.M.

 

            There were present Mr. Eddie Baxley, Mr. Randy Browning, Mr. A.J. “Tony” Lavespere, Mr. Marvin DeLong, Mr. Terry Oliver, Mr. Buddy Pennison, and Mr. A.D. Futrell.

 

            Mrs. Karen Layton was absent.

 

            Mrs. Sheila S. Jackson, Secretary-Treasurer was also present.

 

            The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, was duly convened by Honorable Eddie Baxley, President of the Grant Parish School Board, who then stated that the Grant Parish School Board was ready to transact any business which may come before the Board.

 

            Motion by Mr. Lavespere, seconded by Mr. DeLong and unanimously approved the October 7, 2014 Minutes.

 

            The Superintendent recognized and presented plaques to the outgoing board members: Mr. Eddie Baxley, Mr. Tony Lavespere, Mr. Marvin DeLong and Mr. Terry Oliver.  The Superintendent thanked everyone for their great service and for everything they have done to help the children of the Grant Parish School System.

 

            There were no guests at the meeting.

 

            The Board Members received air conditioner quotes for the Montgomery High School gym, as the principal is trying to get a grant to install a new system. 

 

Motion by Mr. Futrell, for the Finance Committee, seconded by Mr. Lavespere and unanimously approved a parish-wide budget revision in the amount of $8,000.00 for Verda Elementary for installation of security cameras.

 

            Motion by Mr. Futrell, for the Finance Committee, seconded by Mr. Pennison and unanimously approved having trees cut at Little River by Pennington Tree Service, in the amount of $5,300.00.

 

            The Superintendent reported to the Board Members that there are no more leaks in the roof at Grant Jr. High.  The next step is to address the windows that have been leaking.

 

            Motion by Mr. Futrell, seconded by Mr. Oliver and unanimously approved ratifying the disbursement of sales tax checks in the amount of $1,125.00.

 

            Motion by Mr. Futrell, seconded by Mr. Lavespere and unanimously approved going into Executive Session, to consider a request for a student to enroll in the Grant Parish School System.

 

            Motion by Mr. Futrell, seconded by Mr. Pennison and unanimously approved going back to regular session.

 

            This item was tabled until a later date to allow time for more information to be gathered by the parent.

 

            Motion by Mr. Futrell, seconded by Mr. Pennison and unanimously approved going into Executive Session to request another student’s enrollment, in the Grant Parish School System.

 

            Motion by Mr. Pennison, seconded by Mr. Oliver and unanimously approved going back into regular session.

 

            The motion was tabled until a parent or guardian can be at the meeting and provide additional information.

 

            The Superintendent’s evaluation was reported as satisfactory.

 

            The Superintendent included in the Board Member’s folders the Quarterly Report of SBESE – Approved Home Study Programs and Registered Nonpublic School Enrollments.

 

             Mrs. Jackson also stated the Carl D. Perkins, Career and Technical Education had a review and Grant Parish Schools met all requirements.

 

            Motion by Mr. Futrell, seconded by Mr. Delong and unanimously approved to adjourn the meeting.
