BOARD OF THE PARISH OF GRANT, STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN

AT A REGULAR MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY, APRIL 1, 2014.

 

            The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, met in its regular meeting place, the Grant Parish School Board Office, Colfax, Louisiana, in Regular Session, Tuesday April 1, 2014 at 6:00 o’clock P.M.

 

            There were present Mr. Buddy Pennison, Mr. A.D. Futrell, Mr. Randy Browning, Mr. Marvin DeLong, Mrs. Karen Layton and Mr. Terry Oliver.

 

             Mr. Eddie Baxley and Mr. Tony Lavespere were absent

 

            Mrs. Sheila S. Jackson, Secretary-Treasurer was also present.

 

            The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, was duly convened by Honorable Marvin DeLong, Vice-President of the Grant Parish School Board, who then stated that the Grant Parish School Board was ready to transact any business which may come before the Board.

 

            Motion by Mr. Pennison, seconded by Mr. Browning and unanimously approved the March 11, 2014 Regular Board Meeting Minutes.

 

            Motion by Mr. Pennison, seconded by Mr. Browning and unanimously approved the April 2014 revised agenda.

 

            The Superintendent recognized and presented Mrs. Janice Meeker with a retirement plaque for 28 years of great service to the Grant Parish School Board.

 

            The Superintendent recognized the following students as participants in the Louisiana School Board Art Contest:  Taylor Peavy from Grant High School and Semisi Halifihi from Montgomery High School.

 

            The coaches of Montgomery High School were recognized for a great coaching job that led their football players being in the 2013 State Quarterfinals Finish.

 

            The football team of Montgomery High School was recognized for being in the 2013 State Quarterfinal Finish, the first time in school history.

 

            Mrs. Carolyn Lincecum, of Sandra Caston’s Horace Mann Insurance Company, will present Ms. Sheritha Reed of Colfax Elementary with a $100.00 gift card for perfect attendance for the month of February 2014.  Ms. Reed will receive the award at Colfax Elementary in front of her peers.

 

            There were no guests signed in for the meeting.

 

            The Transportation and Maintenance Committee went over dates for the delivery of the new school buses.  Everything so far is on task.  Delivery for the buses will begin mid May and end mid June.

 

            Motion by Mr. Futrell, for the Finance Committee, seconded by Mr. Browning and unanimously approved a $5,000.00 district budget revision for maintenance and repairs for Grant Jr. High.

 

            Motion by Mr. Browning, seconded by Mrs. Layton and unanimously approved a $10.000.00 district budget revision for summer workers and supplies for grant high school.

 

            Motion by Mr. Futrell, for the Finance Committee, seconded by Mr. Pennison and unanimously approved payment of $68,239.57 to Phillip Mayo Construction, Inc., for Application and Certificate #4 for work done at Montgomery High School’s Kitchen/Cafeteria.  The Superintendent stated they are very pleased with the work. 

 

            Grant Jr. High is still having trouble with leaking.  The contractor has been notified.  They are also considering refinishing the gym floor.  More information will be given at the May 6, 2014 board meeting.

 

            The Montgomery High School Kitchen/Cafeteria project is winding down.  The Superintendent is awaiting the Certificate of Substantial Completion at any time. 

 

            Mr. Lee Willis was at the board meeting with copies of the 2012-2013 Audit that was conducted by Rozier, Harrington and McKay.  The audit had no findings and Mr. Willis commended Mrs. Guenell Whitstine, Finance Director, and her staff for all of their hard work. 

 

            The Grant Parish School Board members received for approval at the May 6, 2014 copies of the Grant Jr. High Student Handbooks.

 

            Mr. Craig Tappel, with Brown & Brown Insurance Agency was at the board meeting to present workers comp quotes to the Board to be voted on at the May 6, 2014 board meeting.

 

            Motion made by Mr. Futrell, seconded by Mr. Browning and unanimously approved the high Risk Pool Competitive Grant Amendment # 2.

            The Superintendent spoke to the Board concerning budget meetings which are to begin the week of April 7, 2014. 

 

            The Grant High Track is going to have some trees removed to keep the pine straw off of the track. 

 

            The Superintendent spoke of the Legislative Updates.

 

              An Administrative Review of the Child Nutrition Program proved to have a very good evaluation.

 

            Motion by Mr. Futrell, seconded by Mr. Pennison and unanimously approved adjourning the meeting.
