 BOARD OF THE PARISH OF GRANT, STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN

AT A REGULAR MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY, APRIL 2, 2013.

 

                The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, met in its regular meeting place, the Grant Parish School Board Office, Colfax, Louisiana, in Regular Session, Tuesday April2, 2013 at 6:00 o’clock P.M.

 

                There was present Mr. A.J. “Tony Lavespere, Mrs. Karen Layton, Mr. Eddie Baxley, Mr. Marvin DeLong, Mr. Terry Oliver Mr. “Buddy” Pennison and Mr. A.D.  Futrell.

 

                Mr. Browning was absent.

 

                Mrs. Sheila S. Jackson, Secretary-Treasurer was also present.

 

                The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, was duly convened by Honorable A.D. Futrell, President of the Grant Parish School Board, who then stated that the Parish School Board was ready to transact any business which may come before the Board.

 

                Motion made by Mr. DeLong, seconded by Mr. Lavespere and unanimously approved the Revised Agenda.

 

                Motion by Mr. Pennison, seconded by Mr. DeLong and unanimously approved the March 12, 2013 Regular Board Meeting Minutes.

 

                Mr. Chad Curole was the winner of the $100.00 gift card for perfect attendance for the month of February.  Mrs. Carolyn Lincecum, of Sandra Caston’s Horace Mann Insurance Company, presented Mr. Curole the gift card at Montgomery High School where he teaches.

 

The following students were recognized by the Superintendent as District Science Fair Winners:

 

Hallee Collins – Pollock Elementary – 3rd place

Conner Chambers – South Grant Elementary – 2nd place

Michaela Mercer – Georgetown High School – 1st place

 

The Superintendent recognized the following students as Student of the Year District Winners:

 

Savanna Smith – South Grant Elementary

Lance Delrie – Grant Jr. High School

 Olivia Barfield – Grant High School

 

The Superintendent recognized the following students as the 8th Grade District

 

Science Fair Winners:

 

Samuel Hudgens – Grant Jr. High School – 3rd place

Skyler Schuler – Georgetown Junior High School 2nd place

Lelia Batson -   Grant Jr. High School – 1st place

 

The Superintendent recognized John Palmer as the Class C Cross Country State Champion from Georgetown High School.

 

                There were two guests recognized at the Board Meeting.  Ms. Leeanne Bordelon spoke about of the National Writing Project.

 

                Mr. Lou Papai, along with Mr. Randell Fletcher, spoke about the Sci-Port and Red River Water Commission joint effort to try to get more students going to Sci-Port for more educational experiences.

 

                The Transportation and Maintenance Committee had nothing to report.

 

                Motion by Mr. Baxley, seconded by Mr. Pennison and unanimously approved $15,000.00 for maintenance supplies and repairs; treat weeds, several doors need repair and strip the floors from the Pollock District funds. 

 

                Motion by Mr. Pennison, seconded by Mr. Oliver and unanimously approved from Grant Jr. High District funds $16,000.00 for maintenance supplies and repairs; additional sod and gutters; janitorial supplies, a/c filters; dumpsters and a/c in gym.

  

                Motion by Mr. Pennison, seconded by Mr. DeLong and unanimously approved $50,000.00 for air conditioners from South Grant District funds.

 

                Motion by Mr. Pennison, seconded by Mr. DeLong and unanimously approved $30,000.00 for air conditioners out of South Grant’s Parishwide funds.

 

                Motion by Mr. Baxley, seconded by Mr. Lavespere and unanimously denied a request from Wyndham Contracting Group, LLC. for an extension of time for the project at Montgomery High School’s cafeteria.

 

                Motion by Mr. Baxley, seconded by Mrs. Layton and unanimously approved payment of Application and Certificate for Payment Application #4 in the amount of $41,900.00 to Wyndham Contracting Group, LLC. for services rendered at Montgomery High School.

 

                Motion by Mr. DeLong, seconded by Mr. Pennison and unanimously approved invoice dated 3-29-13, in the amount of $80,925.00 to Gordon’s Blacktopping Service, LLC. for services rendered at the Grant High School track.

 

                Motion by Mrs. Layton, seconded by Mr. Oliver and unanimously approved payment of invoice #108068, in the amount of $925.06, to Alliance Design Group for services rendered at Montgomery High School.

 

                The construction updates were as follows:

 

Grant High Track:  Blacktopping has been laid.  Work will resume after graduation.

Grant Jr. High:  The insulation board is coming off of the industrial adhesive.  The contractor is checking into what made it come off in just that spot.

Montgomery High School:  Wyndham Contracting Group, LLC. is making progress.  They will be out of time on April 27, 2013.  The Grant Parish School Board requested that Alliance Group, LLC. put Wyndham’s bonding company on alert.

Verda Elementary:  They punch list will be gone through and they hope it will be completely finished by the May Board Meeting.

 

                Motion by Mrs. Layton, seconded by Mr. Oliver and unanimously approved the New Book Proposal for both the elementary and secondary schools.

 

                Motion by Mr. Lavespere, seconded by Mr. DeLong and unanimously approved the salary schedule contingent upon the upcoming Supreme Court ruling.

 

                The school board members received workman comp quotes to be voted on at the May 7, 2013 board meeting.

 

                Motion by Mrs. Layton, seconded by Mr. Lavespere and unanimously approved adopting policy KM (Visitors to the Schools) received at the February 2013 Board Meeting.

 

                The Superintendent spoke to the Board Members about their Tier 3 Financial Disclosure Statements. 

 

                The Superintendent asked everyone to pray especially during the High Stakes Testing Week that a calmness come over the schools. 

 

                The Superintendent informed the Board Members to mark their calendars for the Training Meeting on April 16, 2013.  This will complete all mandatory training for the Board Members.

 

                The Board Members were asked to remember the District 33 vote for this weekend.

 

                Motion by Mr. Baxley, seconded by Mrs. Layton and unanimously approved adding to the agenda to survey the bus barn.

 

                Motion by Mr. Baxley, seconded by Mr. Lavespere and unanimously approved an improvement survey to include the approximate 3 acres the bus barn actually sits on to actually show the building.

 

                Motion by Mr. Baxley, seconded by Mrs. Layton and unanimously approved adjourning the meeting.
