 BOARD OF THE PARISH OF GRANT, STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN

AT A REGULAR BOARD MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 2011.

 

                Before the school board meeting started there was a reception held at the PDC for all of the Student’s of the Year, 2011.

 

                The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, met in its regular meeting place, the Grant Parish School Board Office, Colfax, Louisiana, in Regular Session, Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 6:00 o’clock P.M.

 

                Mr. Elray Lemoine swore Mr. Roland ”Buddy” Pennison in as school board member for District 7.

 

                There were present Mr. Randy Browning, Mr. Eddie Baxley, Mr. A.J. ”Tony” Lavespere, Mr. A.D. Futrell, Mrs. Karen Layton, Mr. Terry Oliver, Mr. Marvin DeLong and Mr. Roland Pennison.

 

                Everyone was present.

 

                Mrs. Sheila S. Jackson, Secretary-Treasurer was also present.

 

                The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, was duly convened by Honorable Randy Browning, President of the Grant Parish School Board, who then stated that the Parish School Board was ready to transact any business which may come before the Board. 

 

                Motion made by Mr. Lavespere, seconded by Mrs. Layton and unanimously approved the January 6, 2011 regular board minutes.

 

                Motion made by Mr. Futrell, seconded by Mr. Pennison and unanimously approved the January 25, 2011 special board meeting minutes.

 

                The Superintendent recognized the following Grant Parish Student’s of the Year.

 

                1.  Gage Roberts, South Grant Elementary - 5th grade student

                2.  Henry ”A.J.” Thompson, Georgetown High School - 8th grade student

                3.  Malia Tarpley, Grant High, 12th grade student.

 

                Motion made by Mr. Futrell, seconded by Mrs. Layton and unanimously approved for payment invoice #107881 to Alliance Design Group in the amount of $16,443.70, for services rendered.

 

                Motion made by Mr. Baxley, seconded by Mr. Lavespere and unanimously approved for payment Application & Certificate for Payment (Application No. 13) to M.D. Descant, Inc. in the amount of $698,258.44, for services rendered.

 

                Mr. Lee Dunbar presented the Board with the Student Membership Report. 

 

                Mr. Bill Tudor spoke of the new Grant Jr. High.  He stated everything was under budget and on schedule.  There are walls being placed in the new school but we need a couple of dry days for the ground to firm up for some of the work to be completed.

 

                Carolyn Lincecum, from Horace Mann Insurance, was at the meeting to present Desirree Sikes with a $100.00 gift card for perfect attendance.

 

                Mr. Lee Willis gave each member of the board a copy of the year ending June 30, 2010 financial report.  There were no mentionable errors.  Mr. Willis said we have a great group of people working for the Grant Parish School Board.  Mr. Browning thanked all of the staff for a job well done.  

 

                Motion made by Mr. Futrell, seconded by Mrs. Layton and unanimously approved the Superintendent’s recommendation to approve the following personnel changes:

 

                Retirements:

                1.  Mrs. Mandy Lewis, teacher @ Dry Prong Jr. High, effective 12-31-2011.

 

                Resignations: 

                1.  Lisa Strother - teacher @Dry Prong Jr. High, effective 01-13-2011.

 

                Transfers:

1.  Ms. Rebecca Lynae Lewis from special education paraprofessional at DPJH to school bus driver for route #57 serving South Grant Elem.; effective 02-02-2011     

 

                Employ:

1.  Mr. Jerald Shank - 8th grade Social Studies teacher @ DPJH eff. 01-13-2011, replacing Mrs. Lisa Strother.

2.  Mrs. Haley Poole - Health /PE teacher@ DPJH effective 01-12-2011, replacing Mr. Jason Tinsley

3.  Ms. Laura Bishop - Special Education Paraprofessional @ DPJH, replacing Lynae Lewis eff. 02-02-11

4.  Mr. Casey Henegan - ISS teacher @ Grant High eff. 01-18-2011.

 

                The Superintendent let the board members know the usual reports were in their folders.  She also confirmed the board members training dates as February 17, 2011 at 4:00 P.M. and February 22, 2011 at 5:00 P.M.  These training dates meet the mandatory 6 hours of their annual training.

 

                The Board was asked if anyone wanted to go to the School Board Conference besides Mrs. Layton and Mr. Futrell.  They will be the only two board members attending.

 

                Motion made by Mr. Baxley, seconded by Mrs. Layton and unanimously approved adjourning the meeting.
