BOARD OF THE PARISH OF GRANT, STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN

AT A REGULAR MEETING HELD ON THURSDAY, JUNE 11, 2009

 

                The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, met in its regular meeting place, the Grant Parish School Board Office, Colfax, Louisiana, in Regular Session, Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 6:00 o’clock P.M.

 

                There were present Mr. Craig McCain, Mr. Eddie Baxley, Mr. Terry Oliver, Mr. Randy Browning, and Mr. A.D. Futrell, and Mr. A.J. “Tony” Lavespere.

 

     ABSENT: Mr. Marvin DeLong and Mrs. Karen Layton

 

     Mrs. Sheila S. Jackson, Secretary-Treasurer was also present.

 

                The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, was duly convened by Honorable A.D. Futrell, President of the Grant Parish School Board, who then stated that the Parish School Board was ready to transact any business which may come before the Board.

 

                Motion made by Mr. Lavespere, seconded by Mr. Browning and unanimously approved the minutes from the May 7, 2009 regular board meeting.

 

                Motion made by Mr. Lavespere, seconded by Mr. Browning and unanimously approved the minutes from the May 26, 2009 special board meeting. (Change of policy #GBE – Personnel Assignment.)

 

                Motion made by Mr. Lavespere, seconded by Mr. Browning and unanimously approved the minutes from the May 26, 2009 special board meeting.  (New principal for Montgomery High.)

 

                There was one guest listed.  Mr. Mike Slaughter was present to discuss the property insurance.

 

                The Transportation and Maintenance Committee had nothing to report.

 

                Motion made by Mr. McCain, seconded by Mr. Baxley and unanimously approved payment of invoice #7733 in the amount of $108,787.63 to Alliance Design Group for services rendered.

 

                Mr. Mike Slaughter and Mr. M.B. Slocum spoke on the property insurance which led to a motion being tabled.

 

                Motion made by Mr. Mr. McCain, seconded by Mr. Baxley and unanimously approved adding to the agenda to approve Slocum and Associates as our insurance provider for our Boiler and Machinery Insurance.

 

                Motion made by Mr. McCain, seconded by Mr. Baxley and unanimously approved the preliminary 2009-2010 general fund budget.  The budget of the Grant Parish School Board will be available for public inspection at the school board office during regular working hours beginning June 18, 2009.  A public hearing will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at 5:30 P.M. in the regular meeting room of the Grant Parish School Board before the special school board meeting at 6:00.

                Motion made by Mr. McCain, seconded by Mr. Baxley and unanimously approved district and parish wide budget revisions.

 

                The Superintendent recognized and presented Mallory Crawford with a plaque for seven (7) years of perfect attendance.

 

                The Superintendent recognized and presented a certificate to Mr. Billy Waters, from Grant High School, for outstanding custodial support employee; and Ms. Sally Chelette, from South Grant Elementary for outstanding Secretarial Support personnel.  The Superintendent recognized and presented plaques to the JROTC members who placed ninth (9th) in the nation, in national competition.

 

                The Superintendent recognized and presented plaques to Georgetown High School’s Cross Country Team as state runner’s - up in competition.

 

                The Superintendent recognized and presented a plaque to Montgomery High School for implementing School – Wide Positive Behavior.

 

                Motion made by Mr. Browning, seconded by Mr. Lavespere and unanimously approved putting the Pupil Progression Plan on display for the public to review for 30 days.

 

                Motion made by Mr. Oliver, seconded by Mr. Lavespere and unanimously approved the Personnel Performance Review Plan for the 2009-2010 school year.

 

                Motion made by Mr. Baxley, seconded by Mr. Oliver and unanimously approved appointment of the Colfax Chronicle as the Official Journal for the Grant Parish School Board for July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010.

 

                The Board was handed packets from the Grant Redirective Academic Training School to include their Parent/Student Handbook and Enrollment Packet for approval at the July 9, 2009 board meeting.

 

                Motion made by Mr. Lavespere, seconded by Mr. Browning and unanimously approved the discipline changes for the 2009-2010 school year.

 

                Motion made by Mr. Oliver, seconded by Mr. Lavespere and  unanimously approved changing the Board Meeting for July to July 9, 2009.

 

                Motion made by Mr. Baxley, seconded by Mr. McCain and approved naming Ms. Julie Cole as assistant principal @ Grant High, replacing Patti Williams effective 07-27-09.  Mr. Futrell voted nay.

 

                Motion made by Mr. McCain, seconded by Mr. Baxley and unanimously approved naming Ms. Jane Seward as assistant principal @ Montgomery High, replacing Donnie White effective 07-27-09.

 

                Motion made by Mr. Browning, seconded by Mr. Baxley and unanimously approved accepting the Superintendent’s recommendation to accept the following retirements:

 

A.  Retirements:

                1.  Huey Hulon Lavespere – janitor I @ Verda Elementary eff. 08-31-09

                2.  Carl Vercher – maintenance for GPSB effective 08-11-09

                3.  Sherry Vercher – bus driver @ Pollock Elem. effective 06-01-09

 

                Motion made by Mr. Baxley, seconded by Mr. Lavespere and unanimously approved accepting the Superintendent’s recommendation to accept the following resignations:

                Motion made by Mr. Browning, seconded by Mr. Lavespere and unanimously approved the Superintendent’s recommendation to not re-hire the following person due to Federal budget cuts:

                   05-22-09

 

                Motion made by Mr. Oliver, seconded by Mr. Lavespere and unanimously Approved the Superintendent’s recommendation to accept the following sabbatical leave:

 

                1.  Nancy Middleton – Kindergarten teacher @ Georgetown High eff. 08-10-09
