§THE OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS OF THE GRANT PARISH SCHOOL BOARD OF THE PARISH OF GRANT, STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN AT A REGULAR MEETING HELD ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2007

 

The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, met in its regular meeting place, the Grant Parish School Board Office, Colfax, Louisiana, in Regular Session, Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 6:00 o'clock P.M.

 

There were present Randy Browning, A.J. "Tony" Lavespere, Karen Layton, Eddie Baxley, Marvin DeLong, Terry Oliver, Craig A. McCain and A.D. Futrell.

ABSENT: None

Mrs. Sheila S. Jackson, Secretary-Treasurer was also present.

 

The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, was duly convened by Honorable Karen Layton, who then stated that the Parish School Board was ready to transact any business which may come before the Board.

 

Motion was made by Mr. Futrell, seconded by Mr. Lavespere and unanimously approved the minutes for the August 6, 2007 regular meeting to be published in the official journal.

 

The President of the Board recognized Mr. Bobby Sebastian of the U.S. Forest Service.   Mr. Sebastian gave the Board a report on what effect federal funding or the lack of, will have on Grant Parish School Board forest funds. This report was requested by the Superintendent.

 

The President of the Board recognized the Grant High JROTC Drill Team, who gave a drill presentation to the Board and everyone in attendance at the meeting.

 

The Superintendent recognized and gave a certificate to the following Grant High JROTC Drill Team members: James Arnold, Daniel Barron, Justin Brimer, James Cheek, Mathew Guse, Holly McCann, Marie Furlow, Joseph Fugler, Ryan Davis, Wesley Brisbois, Dana Winston, Ashley Wingerd, Preston Hatten, Bradley Parker, Daniel Wehrle, Wayland Smith, Noel Smith and Jordan Vice.  Some of the members were in attendance and some were not able to attend.  Lieutenant Colonel Walker thanked the Board, the Superintendent and Mr. Crawford and the school for the support given to Grant High  JROTC.

 

The Superintendent recognized and presented a certificate to the following Outstanding School Support Employees:

1.  Janelle Brumley - Montgomery High

2.  Kathy Littleton - Pollock Elementary

3.  Joan Leonard - Dry Prong Junior High

 

Mr. Waylon LaRoux of Horace Mann Insurance presented a gift to the Outstanding School Support Employees.

 

Motion was made by Mr. Baxley, seconded by Mr. Browning and unanimously approved the finance committee's recommendation to approve budget revisions for Parishwide and District funds.

 

Motion was made by Mr. Baxley, seconded by Mr. Futrell and unanimously approved the finance committee's recommendation to adopt a resolution to accept the lowest bid from G.D.Womack Trenching, Inc. in the amount of $66,880.10 for a sewer pump station and force main to serve Grant High, with the money coming out of general fund.

 

Motion was made by Mr. Futrell, seconded by Mr. McCain and unanimously approved to add to the agenda to consider the travel request from Grant High JROTC Drill Team for the 2007-08 school year.

 

Motion was made by Mr. Futrell, seconded by Mr. DeLong and unanimously approved the transportation and maintenance committee's recommendation to grant the travel request for the Grant High JROTC Drill Team to travel by POV to local, regional and national level meets for the 2007-08 school year.

 

Item No. VI. Reports - C. Report on Mary Graham Community School Property Appraisal - Eric Pope, Robert Wolf Realtor - was tabled due to Mr. Pope not being able to attend the meeting due to illness in his family.

 

Motion was made by Mr. Baxley, seconded by Mr. McCain and unanimously approved a resolution to enter into a new insurance policy for 2007-2008 submitted by LARMA.

 

Motion was made by Mr. Futrell, seconded by Mr. Browning and unanimously approved the inclusion of revised policies JDD - SUSPENSION AND JDE - EXPULSION, to comply with the new statutory language from action taken by the 2007 Louisiana Legislature revising statutes regarding expulsion of students, into the parish policy manual.

 

Motion was made by Mr. McCain, seconded by Mr. Futrell and unanimously approved the Superintendent's recommendation to accept the following RESIGNATIONS:

1.  Dorothy Vaughn - Sweeper - Pollock Elementary - effective 08/06/07

2.  Stephanie Airington - 7 hour Lunchroom Technician - Grant High - effective 8/1/07

3.  Christina Barber - 10 month Sweeper - Pollock Elementary - effective 8/15/07

 

Motion was made by Mr. Baxley and seconded by Mr. Lavespere to accept the Superintendent's recommendation to approve the following TRANSFERS:

 

1.  Robin Faircloth - from 3.5 to 7.0 hour Lunchroom Technician at Grant High - effective 8/15/07 - replacing Stephanie Airington

2.  Clara Youngblood - 3.5 hour Lunchroom Technician from Pollock to Grant High - effective 8/15/07 - replacing Robin Faircloth

3.  Jennifer Carter - from 7.0 hour Lunchroom Technician at Georgetown High to Dry Prong Junior High - effective 8/15/07 - replacing Terri Brister

4.  Ruthie Despino - from 8G Preschool to Special Ed. Child Specific Paraprofessional at Colfax Elementary

The above motion was therefore approved.

The above motion was therefore approved.

 

Motion was made by Mr. Baxley, seconded by Mr. Futrell and unanimously approved to go into Executive Session - to discuss Purvis versus Grant Parish School Board civil action 17427 on records of 35th Judicial Court.

 

The President of the Board brought the meeting back into regular session.

 

The Superintendent stated that she, the central office staff and the Board would

 

like to extend sympathy to the family of Mr. Mathew Valley.

The Superintendent read a thank you note from the Grant High Band expressing appreciation for new uniforms.

 

Motion was made by Mr. Futrell, seconded by Mr. Baxley and unanimously approved to adjourn.
