 STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN AT A SPECIAL MEETING HELD ON

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2007

 

The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, met in its regular meeting place, the Grant Parish School Board Office, Colfax, Louisiana, in Special Session, Monday, February 5, 2007 at Six o'clock (6:00) P.M.

 

The special meeting was called for the following:

 

1.  Executive Session - Purpose to conduct appeal hearings

 

There were present Randy Browning, A.J. "Tony" Lavespere, Karen Layton, Eddie Baxley and A.D. Futrell.

 

ABSENT: Marvin DeLong, Terry Oliver and Craig A. McCain

 

Mrs. Sheila S. Jackson, Secretary-Treasurer was also present.

 

The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, was duly convened by Honorable Karen Layton, who then stated that the Parish School Board was ready to transact any business which the special meeting was called for which may come before the Board.

 

The President of the Board asked the parents of the appeal hearings if they wanted open or closed hearings and the parents stated they wanted open hearings.

 

The first appeal hearing was on BB, a student wanting to enroll in Grant High School from another school.  Mr. Crawford stated his concerns about the expulsion of BB from the other school.  The student and parents stated their concerns about the expulsion BB was given and wanting BB to enroll in Grant High.

 

Motion was made by Mr. Baxley, seconded by Mr. Browning and unanimously approved for conditional enrollment of BB as long as he is enrolled in the day-time GED program at Mary Graham.

 

The second appeal hearing was on DF, a student at Dry Prong Junior High School.  Mr. Nettles explained the infraction on the student.  Mr. Dunbar explained previous charges on the student.  The student stated his concerns about the expulsion.

Motion was made by Mr. Futrell and seconded by Mr. Lavespere that the expulsion for the remainder of the 2006-2007 school year be upheld.

 

AYES: Randy Browning, A.J. "Tony" Lavespere, Eddie Baxley, and A.D. Futrell

 

NAYS: Karen Layton

 

ABSENT: Marvin DeLong, Terry Oliver, and Craig A. McCain

 

The above motion was therefore approved that the expulsion for the remainder of the 2006-2007 school year be upheld.

 

The third appeal hearing was on KG, a student at Montgomery High School.

 

Mr. Dubois explained the infraction on the student.  The student and parents stated their concerns about the expulsion.

 

Motion was made by Mr. Baxley, seconded by Mr. Futrell and unanimously approved that the expulsion for the remainder of the 2006-2007 school year be upheld.

 

Motion was made by Mr. Baxley, seconded by Mr. Futrell and unanimously approved to adjourn.
