STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN AT A REGULAR MEETING HELD ON

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2006

 

The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, met in its regular meeting place, the Grant Parish School Board Office, Colfax, Louisiana on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at Six (6:00) P.M.

 

There were present H. Neal Reeder, Bobby Deen, Karen Layton, Eddie Baxley, A.D. Futrell, Craig A. McCain, Linda Amberg and Gary Walker.

 

ABSENT: None

 

Mrs. Sheila S. Jackson, Secretary-Treasurer was also present.

 

The Parish School Board of the Parish of Grant, State of Louisiana, was duly convened by Honorable Eddie Baxley, who then stated that the Parish School Board was ready to transact any business which may come before the Board.

 

Motion was made by Mr. Deen, seconded by Mrs. Layton and unanimously approved to accept the revised agenda.

 

Motion was made by Mr. Walker, seconded by Mrs. Amberg and unanimously approved the minutes for the August 3, 2006 regular meeting and the August 14, 2006 special meeting to be published in the official journal.

 

The Superintendent recognized Ms. Kathy Yocum, a science teacher at Grant High School and Mrs. Crawford.  Mrs. Crawford stated that Mrs. Yocum participated in a weeklong trip this summer in the University of Maryland's microbiology lab, at the USDA farm and the FDA food research center and will travel to Salt Lake City in December.  This trip was sponsored by the National Science Teachers Association and the FDA.

 

The Superintendent recognized and Mrs. Sharil May presented a certificate to Ms. Tonya Copeland and Ms. Darlene Morgan for having passed the State Required Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment Standards.

Motion was made by Mr. McCain, seconded by Mr. Walker and unanimously approved the finance committee's recommendation to approve permission to purchase a freestanding portable partition for Grant High in the amount of $1750.04 with the money coming out of Grant High parishwide funds.

 

Motion was made by Mr. McCain, seconded by Mrs. Amberg and unanimously approved the finance committee's recommendation for permission to replace the covered walkway at Colfax Elementary in accordance with Louisiana bid law with $10,000 to come out of the general fund budget and the remaining funds to come from Colfax Elementary funds.

                                               

Motion was made by Mr. Futrell, seconded by Mr. McCain and unanimously approved the transportation and maintenance committee's recommendation to award the low bid to Power, Communications and Electronics for up to fifty (50) digital video recorders for school buses.

 

The President of the Board recognized Mrs. Crawford.  Mrs. Crawford gave a report to the Board of the ACT scores for Grant Parish Schools.

 

Mrs. Crawford also gave an update to the Board on the iLEAP.

 

Motion was made by Mr. Futrell, seconded by Mr. Deen and unanimously approved to adopt a new Hospital/Homebound policy.

 

Motion was made by Mr. Walker, seconded by Mrs. Layton and unanimously approved to adopt the 2006-2007 Pupil Progression Plan.

Motion was made by Mr. McCain and seconded by Mr. Futrell to approve the Superintendent's recommendation to terminate Clayton K. Fredieu effective 9/5/06.

NAYS: Mr. Deen

 

The above motion was therefore approved.
